Rio Vista Wines Video Blog
On our way back home from our future vineyard, we stopped by Rio Vista Wines and had the opportunity to get a tour of their vineyard from John Little, winemaker and viticulturist. His winery is located right on the shores of the Columbia River, about 10 minutes from Lake Chelan.
We also got to taste though most of his wines. My personal favorite is his 2007 Loony Red a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc all estate fruit. He also grows Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris.
Rio Vista Wines is a small-scale vineyard and winery, producing approximately 600 cases of wine yearly. The property consists of 7 1/2 acres of prime land on the western shores of the Columbia River, 10 miles north of Lake Chelan. Three acres are planted in grapes. The vineyard is planted on a southeast facing slope at approximately 600 feet elevation. The rows are planted in a north-south orientation which allows for optimum sunlight to reach the grapes. The vines were planted in 2000 and 2004.
